What we hold.

The email address of the Google account you sign in with. Everything your family chooses to add: names, dates, how people are related, contact details such as phone numbers, and profile photos. Nothing is gathered about you from anywhere else, and there is no tracking or advertising in Lineage.

Signing in with Google.

Google confirms who you are, so Lineage never sees or stores a password. From Google we keep only your account's email address and Google's id for it, so we know you next time. Your contacts, your Google Drive and the rest of your Google account are never asked for.

Only your family can see it.

Profiles and the tree are visible to members of your family and to nobody else. Lineage is invite-only. An invite link shows only your family's name and where the invited person sits in the tree, and only to whoever holds the link. Profile photos are kept at long, unguessable web addresses; someone given one of those addresses could open that one photo. Inside your family you can narrow what is shown further in Who can see what.

Except the few of us who run it.

A small number of people at Lineage can reach family data when something is broken or you have asked us for help. Opening a family's details is written to a log we keep, so those visits are never invisible. We do not look at family data for any other reason.

Your family's data is not for sale.

We do not sell, rent or share your family's information with advertisers or anybody else, and we never will.

You can take it with you.

Settings → Download your family data gives you everyone in the family and how they are connected, as a file on your device. Profile photos are not in that file yet, and neither are phone numbers or addresses.

Leaving.

There is no button for this yet. Write to peyyala.dev@gmail.com and we will remove your account and what belongs to you. Ask us first what that means for the tree — a person other relatives are connected through cannot simply vanish without leaving holes in everybody else's family.

In loving memory.

Profiles for family members who have passed are never removed automatically. They stay where they are, visible to your family, held in remembrance.

Questions about any of this, or about your own data, go to peyyala.dev@gmail.com.
